Farm Rewiring: Safe, Efficient and Modern

??Wisconsin's production agriculture, a dynamic and ever-expanding industry, is requiring more and more electric energy to stay competitive. This expansion places a huge demand on antiquated electric equipment and wiring. The wiring on a substantial number of farms was installed 20+ years ago and in some cases has been subject to alteration by people who were not necessarily qualified electricians. Correct farm wiring is essential for energy efficiency, minimizing stray voltage and safety.

Farm Rewiring Certification Classes

Farm rewiring certification classes are offered at various locations throughout the state by the following entities: Alliant Energy, Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, and XCel Energy.

Electric Utilities and Electric Cooperatives

Electric utilities and electric cooperatives ?are offering cost-sharing programs to reduce farmers' out-of-pocket costs for rewiring of their farms. ALL of the programs require the work be inspected and done by a certified electrician.

Focus on Energy

Focus on Energy, Wisconsin's energy efficiency and renewable energy initiative, can help farms and agribusinesses reduce operating costs by providing technical assistance and financial incentives to install energy efficient or renewable energy equipment. Examples of how we can help are updating barn lighting with efficient fixtures and bulbs, or upgrading to variable speed drives on vacuum pumps.
